In a confirmation of legality, the government lost in their long battle against radar detectors. Radar detectors do not transmit anything and are therefore legal. Essentially Morpheous ä , the company, is only providing the public with what is already public information and GEODESY , the product, does not transmit any signal, breach any electronic laws or guide lines, and is then perfectly legal.

Similarlysignage warning road users of GATSO locations is required by law, but theirexact position relative to the GATSO camera is deemed vague and thereforeunreliable

VigilanteGATSO groups are the extreme, flaunting the law and taking matters into their ownhands.   ‘Speed cameras, whichdisclose their presence to unwary drivers only after a double flash has caughttheir misdemeanor on film, are regular targets for vandalism’   The Telegraph, James Hardy, 13April 1997

‘Edmund King, executive director of the RAC foundation, said: "The best law is a law that is respected andunderstood. People do not respect 70mph”   TheEvening Standard, David Williams, 2 November 1999

A rebel motoring organisation, theAssociation of British Drivers, is revealing the secret identity of unmarkedpolice patrol cars right across Britain.     The group is ‘using the Internet to uncover the undercover cops’ The Evening Standard, DavidWilliams, 12 January 1998 .   Thedetails are being published electronically and backed by newsletters sent tomotorists countrywide.   Chairman,Brian Gregory, says the new SVDD system was just one more way to screw moremoney out of motorists .   Safetyorganisations claim this practice is a dangerous attempt to undermine police.   The AA warned virtual bulletins like these could boost number of roadusers killed by speeding.   The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents called themove ‘sad and misguided’.   Thegroup defended its right to publicise the information, claiming it was standingup for rights of the motorists

‘What about the deterrent value of speed cameras?   By the very fact that most cameras are painted grey, they already have a significant camouflage value without really trying.   So we need to ask “How can they be a deterrent if the drivers can’t see or easily identify them?” ( The Speed trap Bible , Chris Longhurst, 23 March 2000 )
